Implementation structure

Renowned for the long-standing food studies from the era as Sapporo Agricultural College, Hokkaido University has been placed as a core institution in the “Food and Healthcare Master” program, in which the University of Tsukuba, Kitasato University, and more than 30 companies and institutions are forming a partnership. At our COI site we seek the participation from diverse human resources from local communities, academia and healthcare industry in order to achieve a society where each of us becomes a specialist in food and healthcare.

Mechanism for collaboration

参画機関会議The COI program of “Food and Healthcare Master” holds a conference of the participating institutions every two months so that the relevant players from the industry, academia and government can exchange opinions and mutually share the information. The conference is carried out using the participatory methods, such as group discussion and forum, in order to generate new ideas.

Introduction of the Center for Food & Medical Innovation (FMI)

We are based at the Global Research Center for Food & Medical Innovation (FMI), which is located in the northern campus of Hokkaido University. The center was established to promote the collaboration between the community, academia and industry, and between the food and healthcare. The FMI has a purpose of creating “social innovation” by offering opportunities for them to gather, have dialogues, exchange ideas, experiment, implement and consequently contribute to the society.
